Prabal Gurung x Target Sale

Prabal Gurung x Target dress in Meet the Parents print, Prada sunglasses, Maison Martin Margiela x H&M heels
I picked up a few more Prabal Gurung for Target items in store for 50-70% off a few weeks ago. I surprisingly like the black and white Meet the Parents print floral dress a lot. Black and white is big this spring, and the silhouette with the slightly flared skirt is flattering, even without a belt. I definitely wouldn't have paid full price for the two tank tops, but for ~$10, they are cute and easy to wear. I also bought the drop waisted First Date t-shirt dress for 70% off, not pictured. I ended up returning most of my initial order, the only full price items that I kept were the floral crush dress and long sleeve t-shirt and the first date sweatshirt.

New Springtime Isabel Marant

Isabel Marant Sid trousers and Betty sneakers, Zara t-shirt, Fred Flare Carrie sunglasses
While I usually try to be good and wait for the sales to buy Isabel Marant, there's usually a couple of pieces that I just can't wait to buy and end up splurging for at full price. Last year it was the Lexy jacket, Dicker boots and Betty sneakers. I wear all three all the time, the Dickers and Bettys were pretty much the only shoes I wore all winter, so I think the price is justified based on cost per wear. I try to buy items that I don't think will make it to the sale. This season, I splurged for the Sid trousers in black from the Etoile line. Every year she does a springy floral print, I have her Hana romper from last year that I wore all summer long, and I really like the pattern for this season. I tried on several pieces at Barneys and the Isabel Marant store including the Sumac jacket and Shiso romper, and was surprised to find that the Sid trousers were my favorite. The Sumac is too boxy and short for me and I don't like the racerback style of the Shiso. The cotton voile fabric is super lightweight and they look and feel like pajama pants, but so comfortable. I really liked the striped Cooper jeans as well, but the Sid pants are a lot more comfortable. Since I spend so much of my time on the floor chasing after little K, comfort and practicality is high on my list of priorities. Bonus points for lots of pockets, as I usually never have my hands free anymore. While the blue and red sid trousers are really cute, I thought black would be the most versatile, so I finally tracked down a pair at Maryam Nassir Zadeh in NYC.

OOTD: Embellished Lanvin and Isabel Marant

Lanvin x H&M t-shirt, Isabel Marant skirt, Maison Martin Margiela x H&M heels
A birthday party in Venice was the perfect occasion to break out a fun Lanvin for H&M t-shirt that I don't wear nearly enough. Grosgrain bows, pearls, tulle, rhinestones so very Lanvin.

Welcome to the Jungle: Kenzo Tiger Sweatshirt

Orange Kenzo Tiger Sweatshirt, Current / Elliott denim, K's Raybans
This Kenzo tiger sweatshirt totally reminds me of the embroidered logo sweatshirts that I used to wear as a kid in the 80's. I have a lot of nostalgia associated with Kenzo; it was one of my mom's favorite brands when I was growing up. She reminded me when she saw me wearing the sweatshirt tonight, Kenzo's bright colors and bold patterns were totally her thing back then. I should go digging in her closet for some vintage Kenzo. Love what Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have been doing with Kenzo the last few seasons, great shapes, patterns and materials. Just took a peek at the FW 2013 runway show, beautiful!

Back to the sweatshirt, extra 80's points for the boxy cropped length and screaming colors. Probably my favorite colorway of the Kenzo tiger sweatshirts, love the day-glo salmon orange, turquoise and yellow, and the ginormous tiger embroidery, there's nothing subtle about this sweatshirt at all. Little k likes the tiger, I think she's still too young to be scared by it. After losing out on it online last night while checking out, I bought it at Opening Ceremony on La Cienega this morning, such a great store with awesome staff. Timing was perfect, the sweatshirt hadn't even hit the sales floor yet. I was able to try on a couple of sizes and debated awhile between the small and medium but ultimately went with the medium for the inch or two of extra length. I also tried on the black knit embroidered tiger sweater, but I like the casualness and loose fit of the sweatshirt more (plus it's a lot cheaper). It may be 80 degrees here today, but I don't want to take the sweatshirt off. I also bought the turquoise tiger t-shirt online last night, after missing out on the sweatshirt, but now that I have the sweatshirt, I'll probably return the t-shirt as a little tiger goes a long way...

A Preview of Spring: Falling Flowers and Bright Denim

Prabal Gurung x Target Floral Crush Tee, Current / Elliott denim, Zara colorblock heels
The weather last weekend was amazing; we went to the park one day and went to Fred Segal for some Umami burger and shopping. A very spring outfit for mid-February. I love this Prabal Gurung x Target tee shirt, so bright and happy!

Final Verdict: Prabal Gurung x Target Review

Prabal Gurung for Target Floral Crush dress, Prada sunglasses, Zara colorblock heels
I received my anxiously awaited Prabal Gurung for Target order on Friday. I was happy that I was able to order everything that I wanted online but had no idea how the collection would look in real life. For the most part, I was pretty happy with the collection and my purchases, though some items will be going back for sure.

I was immediately drawn to the Floral Crush dress when the lookbook was released, I love the exuberant floral print with the cascading blooms, reminds me a bit of Mary Katrantzou's floral digital prints. I also like the shape of the dress, girly and perfect for spring. Happy to say that this dress is a keeper, it definitely needs a belt, otherwise the waist is a little high, lacks shape and looks matronly, but the print is just as saturated and happy in real life, the skirt is the perfect length with a bit of volume and pockets, and the 98% cotton material is cool and comfortable.
I was really excited for the black short sleeve Date Night print dress from the lookbook, but realized that it was 100% polyester after purchasing it, so knew that it was probably going to go back. I just don't like the feel of polyester, plus it wrinkles easily and gets staticky. The dress fits nicely and I like the print, but will go back because of the material. I would reconsider purchasing it on sale, but it's not a must have. I love the Date Night print though, I'm glad I got the sweatshirt. I actually prefer the Date Night print to the Floral Crush print in real life, it's quite bold and a little trippy, while the Floral Crush print is a little blurry. Happily, when returning this dress, I found the Date Night sleeveless blouse with mesh on the shoulders that I overlooked at the launch, which I've been kicking myself over ever since. Love the blouse, pictures to come...

I was most disappointed in the next outfit and it is all going back, except for the long-sleeved floral crush tee. The shorts are just too big and frumpy with strange black contrast, and the blazer is too boxy, long and not tailored well, reminds me of a waiter's jacket. The shorts are a size 2 and the blazer is an XS so there are no smaller sizes. It's also way too much pattern all together, and I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to style each piece individually. The long sleeve tee is great though, thin and will easily go with anything from jeans, leggings and skirts, I've been already wearing it all weekend, pictured here. It's too bad, I really loved this outfit from the lookbook, but it just doesn't work in real life. The outfit doesn't look or fit anything like in the lookbook. The shorts and blazers were a couple of the most coveted items from the collection and sold out quickly, so I guess I'll make someone happy with my return!

I also got the black and white wedges, not pictured. I am on the fence with them; I don't love the material, but they are true to size, fairly comfortable and I like the style. I would have preferred them more if they were all black, white is going to dirty too easily. Fit wise, I thought everything fit pretty much as I expected. I find that Target always runs big, so I bought the smallest size for everything, size 2 for the two dresses and shorts, XS for the sweatshirt, blazer and long sleeve tee. So final tally of for sure keepers: Date Night print sweatshirt (which I love), First Date Sleeveless Blouse, Floral Crush dress, and Floral Crush long sleeve tee. Definitely satisfies my urge for a refreshing spring wardrobe update.

Happy Sunday: Sheep's Milk Yogurt Pancakes

Thanks to little k, I've been cooking a little bit more since she started solid foods (where does the time go? she's growing so quickly). She doesn't eat enough quantity wise to use up, say, a whole sweet potato, so we will use the leftovers. It has forced me to go to the market more often, and I usually just buy whatever looks good, is organic, local and seasonal. She's also starting to eat some finger foods so I keep that in mind when making our meal, to have a portion that is unseasoned that I can give to her. I think she enjoys eating the same thing that we eat, and we try to eat our meals at the same time, plus it keeps her occupied while we enjoy our meal. Last night, we made a roasted sweet potato, garlic, red onion, kale whole wheat pizza, and she had baked sweet potato fries, yellow squash and a little pizza crust for dinner. This morning, she had sheeps milk yogurt with bananas and blueberries for breakfast, so I used the remainder of the sheeps milk yogurt for whole wheat blueberry pancakes (she had a little pancake as well which she liked). We are starting with sheeps milk yogurt for now, as sheeps milk is supposedly more similar to human milk. I have to admit, I find it a little gross, its quite sour, and I couldn't even stomach it mixed with fruit (luckily she ate it), so it was perfect used up in the pancakes.
