Birthday Bourbon

After all these years, it's always hard to find the perfect gift for K.  I think I did good this year and bought him one of his favorite bourbons, Blanton's Single Barrel Whiskey.  It's not that easy to find; I had Bevmo order a bottle (love that place).  K. loves his brown liquor and it's been one of his favorites (other than maybe Pappy Van Winkle) ever since he heard about it from a winemaker in Northern Italy at Lago di Garda over five years ago.  It's his go-to after dinner drink at Babbo, but hard to find at most restaurants and stores.  This might be K's favorite gift that I've ever gotten him.  As for me, I think the bottle is really pretty.  Since I'm no bourbon expert, here are the tasting notes from the website (sounds pretty good to me!):

Nose: A spicy aroma of Dried Citrus and Orange Peels with a hint of Caramel and Vanilla.
Palate Entry: Full and soft, marked by a mix of Burnt Sugar, Caramel, Orange, and Cloves.
Finish: Muted but well balanced with Vanilla, Honey, and Citrus

  1. Great gift! We had a bottle a few years ago (just the basic, entry-level Blanton's) and it was good stuff.

  2. We just got the entry level too. At $49, I think it's pretty reasonable for really nice bourbon, especially compared to what you could spend for high end scotch and whiskys.
